Something is starting to happen....

Finallly this week, my third session of printing collographs, something promising happened.
In the first week I printed in a very opaque colour (yellow ochre and warm red). Now I wanted to explore transparency, mixing up a dark purpley black. and inked up my glue plate from last week. The first print was a bit too transparent, so I beefed it up slighty and printed over one of my existing prints. And something magic happened. Suddenly it felt like rock! That feeling of layered sediment, each layer representing the passing of time, of something old and weathered....a little breath of that is there in this print. I'm excited.

I love the surprise of printing over an existing print. It is high risk though. It seems to be either miraculous or disastrous in my experience. There is so much going on in this print with the push and pull between opaque and transparent, and the surprising combinations of different areas speaking through. And that's what I love about printmaking: the unexpected.

This is a flipped orientation ghost over the green print from last week. Perhpas too much information for the eye here, but nice an textural.

And a roll up, just for fun. Only just enough height difference between the glue areas and the plate, not really sure if this works. Much better with the big roller, no edge lines.
