I've fallen in love with seaweeds over the last couple of years, so much so that it's like meeting friends when I take a walk on the beach to see who's there today. Kelp in particular is so amazing: she is a protector, absorbing the power of the waves as they crash into the edge of the land, protecting so many creatures hidden in her forests. And these underwater forests sequester carbon at warp speed, way faster than trees due the speed at which they grow. Giant kelp can grow taller than me in a few days! Sadly, the kelp forests are in trouble due to rising temperatures and acidity. Seaweeds are so important and so beautiful, I wanted to elevate them in these works.

Working out how to add a stencilled layer of my hand. The kelp print reminds me of blood vessels. Seaweed molecules are highly charged and very similar to human connective tissue, so much so that they are now being used in heart bypass surgery. I like how this image interplays between the two species.
