Trying to make the most of this last session, I ruined a few prints and had a few successes. I'm not sure which category this one is in. I loved it just as a ghost, brought in a transparent circular shape which felt ok, added another small shape and hated it, added a delicate root like stencil.......and sort of maybe like it now. It's growing on me. It feels like a heart. It tells a story.

So where to from here?

The thing that stays with me most is a mistake with potential: the stencil of my hand next to kelp. I made the stencil with cartridge paper, not realizing the paper would absorb so much ink and come out very faint. But this unexpectedly faint trace of my hand is what I really liked. It felt like a better measure of human existence in the ecosystem, rather than the enormous footprint we are currently leaving. It also spoke of connection and reverence between species, a gentle reaching out in slow time. I have been studying the traces of insects in woods and leaves, the traces of water on sand, the traces of wind and water on rock. These traces are so beautiful and evocative. So this idea of traces........is perhaps something to follow in to the next project.
